Meet Amy Kemp
Amy Woodard Kemp has called Greensboro home for over 25 years. One of her most pivotal professional experiences was working with North Carolina Realtors Association, the largest trade association in our state. While working on legislative and educational opportunities for Realtors, Amy began to understand the complexities around providing safe, affordable housing for all and how critical quality housing was for thriving communities.
Ensuring that everyone in Guilford County has a bright future has driven Amy’s professional career and service. Amy has worked as a tutor for students at Jones Elementary School in Greensboro and in this role, she gained a deep understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities facing educators on a daily basis. This work has renewed her committment to fully-fund public schools.
Ensuring that all children have an opportunity to thrive is always at the forefront of Amy’s work and service. A dedicated servant leader, Amy currently participates on the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. She is a co-founder of CIA (Community, Information, Action), a local forum that meets monthly to address pressing issues in Guilford County, including food insecurity, healthcare access and immigration. Amy has also served as a Guardian ad Litem for Guilford County, advocating for children in foster care as they navigated the court system.
In addition, Amy has served on the executive committee of the Junior League of Greensboro. She is also a member of the Dolley Madison Women’s Club, a civic organization that supports scholarships for students, the Family Justice Center and the Juvenile Detention Center.
Amy earned a bachelor’s degree from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC.
Amy’s husband, Kevin Kemp, is a Greensboro native who attended Grimsley High School and graduated from Wake Forest University. After playing professional golf, he began a career in commercial real estate. Amy was a caddy for Kevin for several years before he transitioned into his commercial real estate career.
Amy and Kevin are the proud parents of Whitley, a graduate of Grimsley High School and current student at Virginia Tech.

Our children are our greatest priority and the heart of our future. I believe every decision we make as a community should ensure they have the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. That means investing in safe and affordable housing, strong public schools, good jobs that support families, healthy neighborhoods, and a clean environment. My vision is for a Guilford County where every child — and every resident — feels safe, supported, and empowered to succeed. Together, we can build a county where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Key Priorities for Guilford County
1. Safe, Affordable and Attainable Housing for All
I will work to ensure that all families have access to affordable, attainable housing options. By investing in Workforce Housing and Down Payment Assistance programs, we can help families secure homes and keep homes, giving children the stability they need to thrive.
Expand Affordable Housing: Make it easier for our citizens to find and stay in homes that suit their needs.
Support Homeownership: Provide assistance for first-time homebuyers and help renters make the leap to owning a home.
2. Fully-Funded Public Education
Our children deserve an education that prepares them for a bright future. This means we must fully fund our schools and ensure they have the resources necessary to support students, teachers, and families alike. Education is not just a necessity; it’s an investment in the future of Guilford County.
Equitable School Funding: Ensure schools in all areas of Guilford County are fully funded to provide high-quality education.
Teacher Support and Retention: Attract and retain the best teachers by offering competitive salaries, support, and professional development.
Invest in Early Education: Support early childhood education programs that lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
3. Public Safety
Investment in the community is prevention. We can strive to prevent crime and keep our youth engaged and contributing members of our community by:
- Trust Between Neighbors and Public Safety Officers: Build trust in communities by ensuring that the same officers are working the same neighborhoods to build trust and community.
- After-School and Summer Youth Programs: Expand programs that offer year-round structure, enrichment opportunities and supervision.
- De-escalation and Mediation: Train members of the community and officers on techniques to prevent conflicts from turning violent.
4. Safe and Healthy Communities
A healthy environment is essential for children to grow and develop. I will prioritize clean air, clean water, and a sustainable environment that promotes the well-being of everyone in Guilford County.
Clean Water, Clean Air: Ensure all communities have access to safe drinking water and clean, healthy air.
Environmental Justice: Address environmental disparities and ensure that our growth does not harm the health of our most vulnerable communities.
5. Job Opportunities & Workforce Development
As new companies are moving into Guilford County, we must ensure that our public schools and area colleges and universities are providing the training needed to create a highly-qualified workforce to fill jobs in these industries.
By focusing on workforce development and connecting job opportunities with the needs of our growing economy, we can help ensure that residents have opportunities to stay and thrive in Guilford County.
Job Training and Skill Development: Invest in programs that provide our youth with the skills needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Tie Growth to Jobs: As our community grows, we should ensure that job opportunities expand alongside it, with a focus on sustainable, well-paying jobs.
6. Community Revitalization and Growth.
Guilford County is on the brink of significant growth, and it’s important that we manage this growth responsibly. We need to revitalize communities, support small businesses, and create infrastructure that can support the needs of our expanding population. And expanding business opportunities
Revitalized Communities: Focus on revitalizing neighborhoods that need it most, creating vibrant, safe spaces for families to live and work.
Infrastructure Development: Ensure that our infrastructure – including transportation, healthcare, and schools – keeps pace with our growing population and emerging needs.
Sustainable Development: Tie our growth to long-term investments in community, ensuring that future generations inherit a county that’s healthy, prosperous, and sustainable.
7. Health and Well-Being for All
Every citizen deserves access to quality healthcare and the support they need to maintain their health. From prenatal care to mental health services, we must ensure that our community’s health infrastructure is robust and accessible for all.
Access to Health Services: Expand access to healthcare facilities and services, particularly in underserved communities.
Mental Health Support: Provide adequate mental health resources to address the needs of both children and families.
Preventive Health Programs: Invest in preventive care to help children grow up healthy and strong, from nutrition programs to wellness checks.
